As the World Council of Churches (WCC) observes one year since the WCC 11th Assembly in Karlsruhe, Germany, many resources can help the global fellowship, friends, and partners take a reflective look back at a gathering that drew more than 4,500 people, including 659 official delegates from the WCC’s 352 member churches.

As this season of World Council of Churches (WCC) Thursdays in Black ambassadors draws to a close, they reflected on the positive changes they were able to make, as well as the pain of knowing how many women in the world are still suffering from gender-based violence.

Every Monday, staff and students at the Joshua and Timothy School of Theology, St Paul’s University, in Limuru Kenya hold their weekly fellowship during which they hold prayers, Bible study, and theological debates, and sometimes celebrate holy communion together.

To the lively, lilting accompaniment of an orchestral band, visitors to the prayer tent in Karlsruhe, Germany sang an adaptation of Psalm 133 by Hungarian poet and playwright Zoltán Sumonyi, “How good it is when God’s people play together”. The assembled faithful sang enthusiastically, “nothing compares to the sound when God’s people play together as they really were one. Here is the blessing, do believe: God composes life and music so the kingdom may come.”
